FAQs
The good news is, we do this all the time. We can show you samples of paper and card and advise you on the best size, thickness and finish to meet your needs. We’ll also recommend any binding or finishing that we think will suit your finished product. If we need anything from you we’ll be really clear about what’s required, so the whole process is as smooth as possible.
If it’s a relatively small print run, we may recommend using digital printing (this usually works out cheaper too), and for larger jobs we’ll usually advise the more traditional litho method.
No, we outsource printing to a few carefully chosen (mostly local) companies. We have long-term relationships with our printing partners, allowing us to ensure high-quality printing and negotiate the best prices.
Every item is different. We always supply a written quote, giving you prices for different quantities and formats. We can usually give you an idea of cost over the phone, to help you plan your project. And because we only work with third sector clients, we make sure our services are great value for money.
We can deliver short print runs within a few days of you approving the design work. Longer runs of thousands take a week or two, but we can often supply some copies before the main delivery. More complex items (like books) can take significantly longer. Let us know your timescales as soon as possible so we can schedule the design and print work to meet your deadline.
If the mistake is ours or the printer’s, the buck stops with us. Depending on the severity, we’ll either reprint the job at no cost to you, or negotiate a discount as compensation. If the mistake is yours, we’ll do our very best to put it right, for example by getting a reprint at reduced cost.
Yes, of course. We’ll supply the design files to your printer’s specifications, but you’ll have to manage the job and be responsible for quality control. If your printer makes a mistake, we can’t take responsibility for it.
Many printed items are VAT zero-rated, meaning we don’t have to charge you VAT. If we handle both the design and print work on a zero-rated item, we’ll zero-rate our design as well, saving you money if you print with us.
Yes, solid fruit and vegetables (eg apples or pumpkins) can be printed on using edible ink. Soft fruit is tricky, though, so you’ll have to rethink that branded raspberries idea.
Yes. We’ll deliver your items to as many different locations as you like, as long as we get advance notice.
Yes, not only the warm glow of working with a local, ethical co-operative, but also the print trade meaning of ‘fulfilment’: packing and posting individual publications to people on your mailing list.
